A Peterloo Parade
The overture, A Peterloo Parade, will be based on contemporary and historical chants heard at rallies, especially those at the St Peter's Square, Manchester rally and massacre ("Peterloo") of 1819.
A Day in the Life
This concerto for violin and orchestra written specifically for Andy Long of The Orchestra of Opera North will follow the day in the life of Robert Blincoe who was an indentured child worker in the Northern textile industry. This piece will incorporate the sounds and rhythms of the machinery used in mill today, the recordings of which are available through this website.
My Mill Life
This work for solo violin and pre-recorded monologues by current and former mill workers in Northern textile industry will explore the relationships of the workers with their working environment. This piece will also be performed on the 9th July 2019 by Andy Long and student violinists from the University of Manchester at the Bradford Industrial Museum's Weaving Room.
